It’s easy to understand why u-shaped kitchens have become so popular. They’re aesthetically pleasing, practical and can be built seamlessly into any home. At A&T Cabinet Makers, we work with clients to design and install bespoke u-shaped kitchen cabinets.
Whether you’re after a large or compact u-shaped kitchen, you can count on our expertise to get the best results.
How do I make a u-shaped kitchen appear larger?
Don’t have much space to work with? That doesn’t mean your small u-shaped kitchen has to feel small. There are several design tricks you can use to open up your kitchen area, including:
- Keep it bright – Utilise sunshine and artificial light by building your u-shaped kitchen cabinets out of pale timber, or by painting them white. This will help unify the space and minimise the darkness of shadows.
- Reduce Clutter – While it’s tempting to keep much-loved appliances and produce lying around your kitchen, having too many items on display will overcrowd the counters.
- Use open or glass cabinet doors – U-shaped kitchen cabinets are great for storage, but they can box up available space. By using cabinets with an open or glass door design, you can increase the visual depth of your kitchen.
- Reflective Surfaces – Utilise a glass splashback or gloss finish on the doors to bring more depth into the space. A glass or mirror splashback will make the room feel much larger due to the reflections in the space.
What are the advantages of a u-shaped kitchen?
1. Efficiency
U-shaped kitchens offer a practical layout that boosts cooking efficiency. The ‘working triangle’ design connects you with the sink, cooktop and fridge. The tighter the triangle, the easier you can move.
2. Excellent for Storage
U-shaped kitchens offer a huge amount of storage space by utilising three walls in one room. You can line each wall with cabinets and build them as high as you want. This is a luxury many kitchen designs don’t offer.
3. User Friendly
The wraparound design of a u-shaped kitchen provides an amazing amount of benchtop space. This gives you plenty of room to place your most used appliances and many handy areas for preparing meals.
